Google Algorithm
As SEO expert I decided to challenge myself and try to explain Google Algorithm formula. My work based on my observations, research, and reading.
Domain:
- Domain age - WHOIS database
- Domain history - past and present owners. Bad history could affect current owners.
- Domain name - related keywords in domain could improve rankings.
- Domain usage
- Brand name
- gTLD
- Where registered (Geographic location) - helps to rank in local search.
Inbound Linking:
- Link age - older link better.
- Related website
- Website quality (TrustRank, Domain power).
- Deep links
- Page straight - SEOmoz provide some type of tool which might help you find Page straight.
- Quantity - not important for low quality links.
- Type of a website (blog, directory, forum, social network, static, dynamic…)
- Anchor text
- Surrounding text (text around link) - thats why content links is important.
- Link Position (content, footer, header, sidebar etc) - link inside content is the most powerfull.
- One way
- Reciprocal - loosing power.
- Page type (partners, news, clients, archive, resources etc)
- Amount of other inbound links on the page.
- Pagerank (loosing value)
- gTLD - .gov, .edu, .mil rank better
Keywords:
- Domain, folder, url
- Header
- Meta title - keep under 150 chars
- Meta keywords - keep under 500 chars
- Meta description - keep under 200 chars
- Tags
- Position in content
- Page title
- Anchor text - links which point to web page.
Content:
- Duplication - often can meet in php
- Grammar mistakes
- Academic language
- Quotations
- Paragraphs
- MLS writing style
- Tags and title
- Location on the page - keywords in the header and body rank better.
- Amount of content pages
- Amount of unique words, letters
- Content changes (old pages without changes rank worse)
- Privacy page - Google doesn’t trust websites without privacy page.
- Contact page - Google doesn’t trust websites if contact page is not avaliable.
- Address / phone / e-mail / fax / organization name /
Technical issues:
- Page load time
- Language (PHP, HTML, CCS etc)
- Software / script website use - bad script could affect search engine positions.
- Website structure (folders, pages, linking) - organized websites rank better.
- URL structure - should contain folder name and keywords.
- IP
- Programming mistakes
- 404
- Redirects
Media and Social Media Presence:
- Appearance on media websites (news, articles)
- Appearance in social media
- Social bookmarking
- RSS feed subscribers - ????? not known.
- Alexa, Technorati rank - ????? not known.
- Yellow Books, Google Maps - ????? not known.
Online behavior:
- Human review if appeared on popular keywords
- Buying / selling links without “nofollow” - lead to punishment.
- Fast link building - called link spam.
- Link similarity with another site - don’t use the same submission software.
- Forum, blog, comment field spam
- Duplicate content
- Unlimited link exchange (reciprocal linking)
- Banned domain
- Link to adult, illegal, banned, poor quality websites
- Adult, illegal, abusive content
- Spam reports from another webmasters
- Anchor spamming
- Using link farms
- Legal issues (branding, trademark, privacy)
- Rude words and abuse in content
- Cloacking
- Hiding content in background
- MacAfree SiteAdvisor reports - red flag
